SKÅL is an intimate music venue on Vinalhaven, an island in Penobscot Bay known for its thriving lobster fleet, pristine cruising waters, stunning natural beauty, and authenticity.

Locally dubbed “the island speakeasy” for its unmarked and somewhat hidden entrance off Vinalhaven’s Main Street, SKÅL was the vision of Kris Davidson, a 7th generation islander and classically trained pianist, who was inspired to bring quality live music to the island on a regular basis and offer it in a space that made everyone feel comfortable and happy. Kris teamed up with local contractors and NYC architects Maria Berman and Brad Horn of Berman Horn Studio, and as soon as SKÅL opened its doors in May 2019, it was an instant success! With a diverse summer music program and sold out shows in its first season, it is obvious this little Maine island speakeasy is quickly becoming a destination for musicians, music lovers, foodies, and all who enjoy community and fun.

SKÅL is located in a 19th century building, formerly the island’s hardware store, overlooking beautiful Carver’s Pond. It has a sophisticated sound system installed by Stone Mountain Sound, and includes a flexible floor design that works as well for listening room performances as it does for dance bands.

Whether you come for music, Scandinavian inspired food, specialty drinks, or companionship, SKÅL is an experience you won’t forget. It feels as comfortable as your best friend’s living room, as exciting as an Irish Pub, and as sophisticated as a Parisian lounge.
